Players Cup Blowout

By Kristine Crawford

The second Sunday in September had me traveling out to Ringers Pub in Mountlake Terrace for another exciting defense of the Players Cup, hosted by Todd Jordan, Brian Smith, Mike Virdell, and Brett Brophy.

Before complaining about the little bit of traffic I had to fight, I realized today’s challengers were coming all the way down from Bellingham. So I had it pretty good. Rick Foster, Brad Bowles, Steve Bailey, and Frank Castaneda, representing the Waterfront Tavern, arrived on time, all with smiles on their faces and ready for a good day of darts.

During the first six games, Ringer’s flew out of the gates, proving their dart dexterity and why they hold the Players Cup in the first place.

Frank’s 164 out earned the Waterfront their second win and brought the score to 4-2, Ringers.

All kinds of sports played on every television around the bar. Ringers was completely packed, seeming to add fuel to the Ringer’s conquest.

Some very close, one-dart-makes-the-difference games ensued. Ringer’s team was quickly pulling away from their competition, bringing the score to a commanding lead of 15-3. But the Waterfront boys dug deep. They weren’t about to give up. They swiped three games in a row out of pure determination before Ringer’s put a stop to their run, taking the final two games, winning the match with a score of 17-6.

Congratulations to Ringers Pub on yet another successful defense of their Players Cup. Next up we’ll see Tacoma’s Home Plate travel north to Ringers on October 28. Come out in support.
