Limited Cup excitement
By Crisandra Deloney-Hinton
The defending Limited Cup team from Flights Pub took on a little different look December 17, 2023 when they invited Ringer’s Brian Smith, Karim Nowbar, Carlos Tamayo, and Travis Stocking to challenge their beloved Cup. Their usual third player, Dan Osborne was M.I.A. from the match, taking care of the LADIES in his life, yes, ladies plural, since just the night before, Dan and Christina were blessed with their little bundle of joy, Brooklyn.
Brian Arganti took his place. So, defending the Limited Cup for Flights was Dale Virdell, Mike Virdell, Brian Arganti, and Jason Virdell. That’s a lot of Virdell’s to be sure!
With a new player on the team, and Jason being sick as a dog with the flu (He was still playing because they already had a sub for Dan), they brought the trophy out, set it on the table, and quickly got things started.
The match began with a friendly exchange of handshakes between players from each bar. The Ringers team won the cork giving them the right to go first.
Brian Smith shot out of the gates with a nice Hat Trick. Dale Virdell answered right back with a Hat Trick of his own.
Ringers Pub took the first game when Karim Nowbar mastered out a 71 with a Single 20, and a Triple 17.
The sweet sound of bullseyes filled the air as the two teams competed for the the rights to the Limited Cup and their honor.
As they transitioned into the first Cricket game, Dale Virdell led his team with a great open on the Triple 20, Triple 19. This allowed Mike Virdell to take the game with a Triple 16, Single Bull, Black Bull. The score was 2-1 Ringers, and the fight was on!
As the match forged ahead, the score was still close, now 7-5 Ringers. This race to 17 games was by no means going to be easy for either team. Each and every player put their best darts forward and both teams fought hard for the win. This match was a real nail-biter from the very beginning. Bull after Bull, Triple after Triple, these guys were absolutely amazing to watch and a pleasure to coordinate.
Both Flights and Ringers displayed great sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst each other. Loud cheers went up for the wins, and deflated sighs for the misses, they all played amazing darts.
Alas, we must have a winner and a loser in any game we play, and darts is no different. After 3 1/2 hours of throwing darts, the inevitable match-ending darts came from Travis Stocking, giving Ringers the victory with a Single Bull and two Single 16s. The final score was 17 to 13, and Ringers Pub takes the Limited Cup home to Mountlake Terrace!
Congratulations to Ringers and thanks to everyone for an outstanding day of competition.
