Shades of Pete Gilbert

By Ty Hughes

Losing a family member will always be one of the toughest ordeals we can face as humans. One minute they’re alive and talking, sharing memories and opinions, and the next minute, they’re gone for good.

As they say, it’s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.

Friends and family gathered at the Cactus Moon in Everett for a memorial event to honor one of our fallen comrades, Pete Gilbert.

Pete was an integral part of the dart community, for more than 20 years. His friends and cohorts spread out over the entire Pacific Northwest. Just having him in the same room, whether he was playing in the tourney or not, was just comforting to all of us. He had a sense of humor that kept us laughing.

Pete got his start in darts under the Datascore system on the Eastside, caused as much trouble he could for Operator Steve Fisher, and eventually migrated to the Everett area with his wife Cindy Gilbert. Together, they built friendships everywhere they went. Unseperable, Pete and Cindy were the quintessential couple, always happy and cohesive. The love they shared was something to be admired.

Cindy and the family were grateful to have so many well-wishers at the Memorial event last month. Even the original Datascore group was on hand; Tim, Erik, Art, and Steve.

There were flowers, hugs, memories, but not much fanfare. “Just the way Pete would want it,” Cindy said.

Rest in peace Pete Gilbert, your presence will be missed.
