Pied Piper Benefit Raises Thousands In Relief
Dee Plunkett took things by the bullhorn at Pied Piper Pub, Saturday, October 6, auctioning off an entire 30-foot table packed full of gift baskets, coolers, signs, money-saving deals, and so much more.
Twenty-two teams signed up to play in a special Kim Card Memorial Fundraiser shoot, designed to raise money for Kim’s three boys and husband, John Kerr.
Kim slipped away quietly in her sleep last month, leaving her kids without their mother, and John without his wife of 18 years. And to make matters worse, John was actually fired from his job when he called to inform them he would not be coming in due to his wife’s death!
The Pied Piper continued to fill up with dart players and friends of the family as the tournament progressed. Zac Turnbaugh and Dawn Gonser navigated the players through the tournament charts, until Dee and company interrupted the matches to auction off tons of valuable, donated items. It was standing-room only as bidders shouted generous cash offers on each item up for bid. Several popular dart players were even auctioned off as partners, raising an additional $300 cash. A bashful John Kerr himself went for a whopping $60.
The auction went on for a couple hours, but everyone participated, donating money, either toward the auction or by purchasing hundreds of jello shots, all of which went to the family. Every bullseye on the board was announced, prompting the bullseye bucket to be passed around the room. Everyone threw in a quarter, and many donated paper money.
Kim Card’s benefit fundraiser was an amazing display of love and support for one of our own. The way this dart community rallies around and for each other is truly heart-warming. John Kerr was deeply touched by all the support he’s received from friends and family.
In all the Pied Piper raised $4577.00 that night for John and his three boys, thanks to everyone who came out to support the cause. Special thanks to all of you that made this night possible.
The very next morning, John took three excited boys on a school clothes shopping spree to get ready for another year.
It’s our hope that John’s love of his children will carry them through the tough times when they will need their mother. The future will be tough for this family, but with support like we witnessed at the Pied Piper, they will pull through just fine.
On a side note, John was able to secure employment shortly after losing his other job. We wish them all the best in the years to come. God bless you all.
