Fun shoots characterize the Channel Marker
By Mary Lamken
Channel Marker is one fantastic bar and restaurant on the Edmonds waterfront, right next to the Ferry Dock. The people are friendly, the food is amazing, and owner Jan Minster is always looking for ways to keep the regulars happy, and still bring in new faces.
One of her favorite ways to spice things up is with Cosmic Darts. Regular lighting in the dartboards are replaced with fun neon colors. Vibrant pinks, blues, greens, and oranges provide an interesting backdrop to the dart boards. It certainly makes the game more challenging and offers a lot of opportunity for teasing, laughter, and of course, winning some money.
Equally fun is when Jan throws burlap over the boards, and players have to shoot blind! Watch for burlap shoots on the third weekend of each month at Channel Marker. Unfortunately, Cosmic darts will a short hiatus, but will be back in a couple of months.
Renee and Floyd, Dart Coordinators, make sure the tournaments run smoothly and the patrons have fun. Even when the crowd is small, Renee ensures those who come to play are able to do just that. Whether it is changing a team tourney into a singles match or letting someone have two partners, Renee makes sure the tourney goes on. This dedication to the sport makes Channel Marker a great dart bar.
Keith pulled double duty tonight, shooting with both Michelle and Jeanette. One match, he played against himself! Keith and Michelle took out Keith and Jeannette in that match.
This night there was a mix of regulars and some new faces amongst the dart shooters. As teams trickled in to get started, it became clear that the competition would be fierce.
As the night progressed and teams began to dwindle, in this 501, Cricket, Choice tourney, those remaining ramped up the party a little. Keith Stevens was seen dancing across the room as DEVO’s “Whip It” played on the juke box. Come on out another night to see if we can get a replay of that one, chances are good you will. Nice moves Keith!
The hard-fought dart match between Floyd/Don, and opponents Jacob/Zach was a fun one to watch. Close in points the entire time, the game finally went to Don and Floyd when Floyd took out the final Cricket game after several rounds of near misses.
Shon and Regina played against Tim and Gino for the “Driver’s Seat”. 501 was taken out in just eight rounds, with Shon hitting the final out. Cricket went to Tim and Gino sending the match into the 3rd game. Tim and Gino took the final Cricket game in a closely fought battle.
During their match against Don and Floyd, Keith and Michelle took out 501, Don and Floyd took Cricket sending yet another match into the third game. With a score of 189 to 170 and each team having two marks on the bull, Floyd took it out with two bulls, pitting he and Don against Regina and Shon. Regina and Shon took the match after only two games. Sending Floyd and Don for more beer and a nice 3rd place finish.
Shon and Regina vs. Tim and Gino in the finals. Shon took out the first 501 game after Tim and Gino busted on a 31 out. Cricket began with a couple of misses at the 20 on both sides. Shon finally tripped 19 to get the game moving. After that it was almost all Shon and Regina, hitting mark after mark to take the match. That was the first loss for Tim and Gino, so it starts all over again. Shon and Regina took out 501, Tim and Gino took out Cricket and the final game of cricket went to Tim and Gino.
A very efficient Channel Marker staff kept the drinks flowing, the food coming out of the kitchen and the pull tabs flying. Roz, always smiling and Bobby behind the bar mixing up his “Bobby Love” specials made the evening a fun one. Fried chicken was the order of the day, as plate after plate was served.
Thanks Jan for making The Channel Marker a great place to come hang out, shoot darts, play pool and just chill with friends!
