In order to get on the “map” and be considered a serious dart bar, the All-New Scorecard Pub on Northgate Way hosted a rare $2,500 Gtd. Added shoot on December 12, 2009.
Tom Williams ran the tournament charts and they couldn’t have gotten a better candidate. This one was expected to draw half the city of Seattle. Like an ocean that retreats before a tsunami, other dart bars from north to south would likely drain of all lifeform as they piled into the Scorecard.
Forty teams, or eighty players, plus their non-dart playing buddies showed up to play, but ironically, the gigantic payout may have had the opposite effect they were looking for. In fact, many players actually stayed away for fear that it would be a complete madhouse… which it was - but comfortable nonetheless.
The Scorecard hosted players and teams from as far off as Bellingham, two hours north. We saw some folks that we haven’t seen in years come out for this one. There had to have been 120 bodies shuffling around the place, all in good spirits, anticipating a great day at the boards. There was a thousand big ones going out to one winnerg team of lucky, I mean talented, players. The bar was crawling with strong players hoping to get their hands on some of that cash before Christmas. What a great way to pad your Christmas spending!
GT Darts brought in extra boards, totaling nine. The tourney went smoothly and quickly, thanks to Tom and the cooperation of everyone.
Tom paid all the way down to 9th Place, so one out of four players were in the money. Plus, he held two random drawings among players not in the money to win fifty bucks cash! He mixed up the format just enough to make it very interesting.
Kevin and Darin ended up winning the whole thing - way to go guys!
