Mixed Memorial Cup
By Scott Kringle
On Saturday, June 11, 2024 Cloud 9 and Cactus Moon met and played for the Mixed Memorial Cup. For the challenging team from Everett was Cactus Moon’s Todd Jordan, Teresa Hestkind, Dave Bresee, and Michele Barnes. All have played for most of the higher-rated cups and are a road-tested, and proven group of shooters.
The defending team was Cloud 9’s, Randi Valantine, Dave Valantine, Yelena Husman, and Peter Clark, who took John Husman’s place after he stepped down when his teammate’s ratings changed.
A large crowd showed up to watch the Mixed Memorial Cup, plus the Hot Shot Cup was being played across the bar. The match was cruising along at a fast pace, so it didn’t take long to bang out twelve games. The score was all knotted up at six to six.
The girls for both teams were totally on fire, and it was because of their hot shooting the guys had plenty of chances to take out the games. The next twelve games played out the exact same way leaving both teams tied at twelve to twelve.
Suddenly the Cloud 9 team just decided that enough was enough and they didn’t give up another game to Cactus Moon, winning the next five in a row to hold onto the Mixed Memorial Cup, seventeen to twelve. Meanwhile, across the bar, Cloud 9 gave up the Hot Shot Cup to Pickled Onion, finishing with the same score of seventeen to twelve.
