LATITUDE 84; TACOMA, WA By Ty Hughes Fathers are the best! Of course I am one, so I might be a bit biased here. Regardless, the folks at Latitude 84 believe as I do and they put their money where their mouth is on Saturday, June 14 when they held their first annual Father’s Day Shoot. Even though the Medallion published a 7pm start, which was wrong, Sheila and her girlfriends made sure that everyone was aware that the actual start time was at 2pm. Well, they definitely got the message, because they hosted 16 teams when it was all said and done despite the beautiful sunny day outside. The girls had a blast catering the event for their guys, most of whom are fathers themselves. Michelle, Shannon, Lynette, Sheila, Jenny and Coni slaved over the backyard barbecue on the deck at Latitude cooking up goodies and lined a full table of incredible foodstuff brought from home and made with loving care. Lynette’s bean dish was to die for, burgers, fried chicken, macaroni and potato salads, cake, brownies, the whole smear! Great job, ladies! Your hard work was appreciated by everyone who was fortunate enough to partake. There was so much food that even after everyone had their fill, there was still a massive amount of food left over. The dart tournament was entertaining to say the least. Melvin Cherry, who partnered up with Pat Farrell, had a lot to say to his constituents. He was in form, lashing out at the barrage of critical commentators all day long. The trash talkin’ went on throughout the entire tournament, but in the end, everyone knew that their friendship could handle these pointed jabs. In fact, Melvin seemed to feed off their vociferous critiques, turning up the heat and allowing his darts to back up his words. With help from his partner, Pat, they were able to cruise through the loser’s bracket and come back to beat Dre and his partner Brandon in the finals. Brandon, a soft-spoken Medalist rated 3, seemed overwhelmed by all the trash talkin’ as he and Dre battled to take the driver’s seat. These were the final results: 1st Place: Melvin and Pat Great fun, great food, awesome fatherly recognition for all the dads at the first annual Latitude Father’s Day Shoot. A big thanks to all the girls for your hard work on the food. Even Ray Loader stopped by to enjoy a plate and Stephanie, the bartender, expertly managed the large crowd, keeping everyone in good spirits. Jerry and Kelly announced that they would be getting married next year too! Together, they have eight kids between them, four each! Shannon and Sheila were both celebrating their birthdays making this special occasion even more exciting. Happy birthday to a couple of cuties! This one is not to be missed next year, guys! Plan on bringing your best game and your biggest appetite on Father’s Day 2009! |
