SPECTATORS BAR & GRILL; KENT, WA
Spectators changes hands

By Ty Hughes

It’s official! Well, almost anyway. Spectators Bar & Grill on Pacific Hwy. South in Kent has been sold. New owners, Julie and Randy, are poised to take ownership of the bar sometime in February 2008.

Dennis and Dena have owned several bars in their 26 year history in the business. Going all the way back to Montana’s, 99 Club, Charlie Mac’s, The End Zone and most recently, Spectators. They’ve been big players in the dart business over the years as well, always supportive of a large dart family. Together, they had a huge hand in building and sustaining darts in South Seattle and Kent.

Dennis and Dena have finally reached the end of the line with respect to bar ownership. The relief and satisfaction that comes at the end of a long and successful career was readily apparent in their faces as they announced the sale of Spectators. They are ready to break away and enjoy some serious, well-deserved down time. The Medallion wishes you both a restful and fulfilling future and thank you for so many years of commitment.

Along comes Julie and Randy, a couple of avid dart players, and snatch up a good thing when they see it. This being their first bar, they’re excited about the possibilities. Julie will run the darts for now and plans to add a couple boards and move all seven of them back over to the southern-most wall. They will continue running regular tournaments, building on the solid base of players maintained by Dennis and Dena.

The focus will definitely be on darts, but Randy and Julie want to make other changes as well, in an attempt to diversify to appeal to a wider demographic. For example, they will be tearing down the half wall separating the pool area. The pool tables will now be where the dartboards are and the old pool room will become a big dance floor for all the DJ Dance music to come. Did ya follow all that?

They will be bringing in Pull Tabs for you gambling junkies too. The food will continue to come out piping hot and just like Mom’s recipes. The drinks will continue to flow generously and with a smile. Same old Spectators that you’ve come to appreciate, but now with fresh legs!

So, what are you gonna do? Get over there and see for yourself!

On Saturday, January 12, they hosted a $300 Added. Fifteen teams came out, including the likes of Mike Hobbs, Chris Bennett, Kim, Brett, and even Richard Baker found his cojones and got out of the house for the night. A self-professed retiree, Richard said he hadn’t played in quite a long time. Always good to see Richard.

Lots of Tacoma boys came out to Specs that night, like Snoop, Hele, Bullit, and they brought a Tacoma girl with them – none other than the beautiful Tori Rillera.

The turnout was down this time, probably due to an upsetting Seahawks playoff defeat to the dreaded Pack just hours earlier the same day.

Keep your eyes on Spectators in the months to come. There will be lots of changes and upgrades, forcing you to rethink the number of nights you’ll be playing league next season.
