JIMMY JACKS SPORTSBAR; EVERETT, WA
Three’s company at Jimmy Jacks

By Kelly Gries

Fifteen trios teams came out to honor our vets and compete for the $1000 Payout at Jimmy Jacks in South Everett on Saturday, November 10.

Teams came from as far off as Kent to play in this tournament and the competition was fierce. With that much money on the line, you just knew everyone wanted a piece of it!

We were underway. Tami Payne ran the tournament in her indubitably adorable fashion. There was not only a female bonus point, but a veterans bonus point also. Even after the bonus points, there were four 24 point teams! One of those had two bonus points! Scary!

As the band “Singles” played in the background the competition began with all eight boards filled. Frustration reigned as the big teams seemed to drop and the higher rated players were just a bit off at first, possibly due to the fact that there were just so many people. It was great to see some faces I haven’t seen for a while. I mean, there were A LOT of people. Then, as a few teams were eliminated, everyone kicked it into high gear as the money and the glory came closer to being a reality.

Our little ten point team heard the word “sandbaggers” a few times. But that’s okay, we shot our butts off, especially against the higher rated teams! Those who complained the loudest brought our game out even more!

The talented team of Shawn, Heather and Ishmael put us in the loser’s bracket, but any time you face Heather, you know you will have fun! Then Mike, (the owner of Jimmy Jack’s and Ron Jeremy look alike), Tami and Robert took us out for the night. I will say that even though they knocked us out, that was probably the best match we had all night! I love a good competition with friends and good sportsmanship. We took 3rd place and the two teams that beat us split for 1st and 2nd.

All in all, I would say it was a great time! With Jesse behind the bar and the server with the dark hair and smartass retorts, who I can never remember her name. She is the best one on the floor there. You know you will get great service. The band Singles was great and not too loud, as some tend to get. You will always have a good time at Jimmy Jack’s and they have tournaments every night of the week, even after league! Crazy people, I say!
