Great darts, great food, great fun at Joes Grotto
By Mike Bates
It had been a while since I was at the Grotto to play some darts. It wasnt because I dont like it there; it was that other commitments were always in the way. Not this time; I was there early, and as usual, Joe rolled out the red carpet for the players.
The new setup kicks butt, with lots more room to play; its perfect for a large crowd. Joe always goes the extra distance for the players. It was a $1,000 added dart tournament not a $1,000 payout, it was added. Wow, you say? Well, there is more!
How about a $1,200 out shot? Is that enough? Not for Joe! He also provided a catered food cart outside to help soak up some of the drinks.
This wasnt just a food cart it had the best barbeque sandwiches this side of the Mississippi. With beans, potato salad and all the trimmings, what could be better? All this and a great atmosphere to match! What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
So, after everyone got home from church they headed to the Grotto. Lots of great shooters were there, but the hottest shooter was Alvanita. She was on fire! Rick Pudjak had some fire of his own going on, and when he got drawn for the out shot, it was all over but the shouting. Rick buried a seven mark to claim all the cash.
They paid out lots of cash to the top eight teams. Here are the top three:
1st place; Jimmy Damore, Lonnie Malchow
2nd place; Bob Castillo, Rick Pudjak
3rd place; Marty Scarborough, Shawn
Thanks for the great time Joe and thanks for the beers!
