Masters B deserving of recognition

By Mike Bates

Most of the time, you hear about the Masters League and it is about the A Division. Theres nothing wrong with that, but our Masters B Division has continued to flourish and get stronger every season.

On any given night, you have 4.0 shooters ready to breakout. It is no longer the place were you play just because you didnt get picked in the A Division. It is the place to improve your play, hone your skills and play the same format as the top division plays.

Former Masters captain and Team USA member, Jimmy Pack, is in his second season in the B Division. Jimmy had an illness and had to take a few seasons off, but he is back now and looks like he is returning to old form. He started the first week with a 3.77.

Other Master A caliber players like Victor Kravitz, Ron Merrill, Brad Johnson, Elijah Brown, Kenny Wright, Mike Buettner and others have made the Bs a great league. More than half the field of 40 shooters shot above a 3.0 the first week. The league is no longer 2.70 to 2.0 shooters. You better bring your game to play in this league. How about Denise Davis? Double Ds came out smoking with a 3.27. She is a force to be reckoned with. Captain Doug Miller shot a 3.57 and his team averaged a 3.4 for the night.

Back in the day, it wasnt fashionable to be a B player. Those days are long gone. These guys are out playing against the top players and holding their own. It is just a stepping-stone to the next level. It is time we take notice that they have some serious dart players and give these guys and gals their props. Great job and great shooting; keep it up!
