Tournament criteria and my suggestions

By Kenny Wright

I often get asked where I think the best place to play darts is. Or why do I like the places I play versus the places I don’t. Here are some suggestions on where to play. Some compliments and also reasons why I do not play in some places. Of course these are just my opinions.

Friday night at Tosos. Lately this has been the place to go due to the lack of players anywhere else. It has mixed levels of players and is usually a good time. Not the best service because they have new servers every week. Tough to get a drink or even your tab. Free pizza for the players kinda makes up for that I guess.

Friday night at Jimbos. I hear it’s okay. I cannot comment because it is for players with an average of 3.0 or below. So, if you fit in with that check it out.

Friday nights at Stingers. Lots of fun when there is one. The owner here really makes an effort to make the players happy. I think players do not go much because it is crowded. The other patrons do not understand darts, so there is a lot of people walking around and in front of you. It is still, in my opinion, a great place to go even if it is just to support the owner for his efforts.

Saturdays at My Ol’ Mans. This is a great Saturday afternoon tourney that may also be the longest running. Great tournament directors and great service. The tourney starts on time everytime and usually is run with little to no problems. What I don’t like is the room. It’s crowded and it is sometimes hard to shoot.

Saturday night at Bull Shooters. In my opinion, the biggest tourney on Saturday night. With a mixed level of players, it’s a good time for anyone regardless of experience. Tons of room, great tournament director, and maybe the best servers in town. With the owner of the bar being a dart player himself, this bar really caters to the players.

Saturday night at Northstar. Always a tourney regardless of the amount of players. Usually a lower rated crowd which makes this one of the more fun tourneys around. The bar loves dart players and has drink and food specials every night.

Sundays at Bullshooters. This is a handicapped singles tourney. I like it because anyone can win. This is just getting started so I hope to see it grow. See above for bar details.

These are just places I go to. There are many more I’m sure so maybe someone else can give a review of the East Valley.
There are also places that I do not go for a variety of reasons. I won’t name them here, but these are some reasons why; cheating with the draw, stealing money, fights, arrogant owners, or all of the above in one case.
I hope this helps when you are trying to decide where to play.
