Saturday nights still going strong at Uncle Charlie’s
By Ken Wright
For any of you who have tried to start a new tournament in a new location you know how many obstacles you can run into. Well I am glad to say that Uncle Charlie’s on Saturday nights is still going strong. Every week there are a few more players and every week everyone has a great time. With a solid tournament director, great food and superb service, it’s no surprise.
The latest tournament was combined with Mike Bates’ 50th birthday party. With 54 players plus friends and family, the bar staff had their hands full. I was again impressed by how well they kept up with us. We were also fortunate to have complimentary food and drinks, thanks to Jay Moredock’s party-planning skills.
The tournament was run well, and as always, we had a wide range of skill levels – all the way from Gary Erwin to Bobby Castillo.
Now for the complaints. The complaint should be on us. We all go to different places to play. We all know which bars are known for bad service, which ones have great service, and the ones that are just there. Why do we all (including myself) complain and get frustrated when the good bars are a little slow?
We can overwhelm these places sometimes with the amount of players we bring and the level food and drinks we consume. I know they have a responsibility to staff accordingly and I think the good ones do 95 percent of the time. Even when we do surprise them, they still give us better service than some places on their best day. So let’s try and cut them a break when its obvious they are understaffed that other five percent of the time.
For those of you who know me, you know I am a very picky person. You know things have to be very close to perfect for me not to complain. Speaking for myself, I have finally found a place that I have no complaints about.
If you have been looking for a place to play, a change of pace, you have now found it. So come see what all the hype is about on Saturday night.
