Mick's Tournament of Champions

By Sheila Dill

And that it was! Old friends, once before eastsiders, faithful westsiders and new friends, all gathered to honor a remarkable man and to give hope to a precious young lady who now faces her oun battle with leukemia.

The day was filled with laughter, tears, toasts and memories. Bill Beard and Brandi Stone gave a very touching toast and presented Mick's brother, Denny, with a scrapbook filled with tons and tons of pictures and a picture frame we all signed. Oddly enough, it was almost as if I expected the door to open and Mick walk in... late, very late, of course.

There was just so much going on. There were hundreds of raffle prizes seriously hundreds! We sold so many tickets that we had to call out the last four numbers because it rolled over 1000. We had bracelets that said Hugs for Hannah that sold out immediately.

The guys from Miller were there to help out, and they made many very kind donations. It was also Marie's birthday and we had three cakes for it. We actually got to have our cake and eat it too! (ok, not really funny.)

Even though it wasn't our beloved Tempe Champions that is now a police station (kinda ironic, huh?), we all reminisced of old times. I was lucky enough to draw an old friend that I had not seen since the old Tempe days Ryan Terry. Ryan had not thrown darts in two years, or so he claimed, but he threw just as well as he always had before.

We had 70 players who vied for the title of Champion of the Tournament of Champions. But it was Ballbuster and Brian? I think who claimed the title. (Kinda funny, because I think Bob Castillo and Bobby Stone were partners too, and placed)

A very big thanks to Troy Vending for running the tournament! As always, they did a great job. And, it was nice to be surrounded by such wonderful, generous people.

We raised over $2,400 for little Hannah. (Visit www.ourherohannah.com for more information) And thank you to all those who helped put this tournament together, collect raffle prizes, find pictures And to Heather, our awesome bartender, and to everyone who showed up to help us honor and remember Mick Spasojevic! Thank You!

We all love and miss you, Mick.
