against breast cancer
Fundraiser
rakes in big bucks for the Susan G. Komen Foundation
By Gloria Conway
Well friends, if you haven't heard, the place to be is Dave's Place. The
2nd annual fundraising bash to benefit breast cancer raised $1451. A great
time was had by all. We feasted on great food supplied by the "regulars"
and at only $5 a plate, the price could not be beat.
The festivities included a dunk tank, which was by volunteer or nominee.
It was a big splash and being the great sport that I am, I volunteered
to be dunked. Believe me, there were a lot of people eager to dunk me.
Hmm, maybe it was the clothes I was wearing. Big thanks to all the dunkees.
Many thanks to all the vendors for their donations of raffle items, such
as Orange County Choppers bar stools (these were cool), an air compressor,
shirts, caps, neon signs, movie tickets, gift baskets, gift cards and
more. They came through with some great stuff and plenty of it.
The big raffle of the day was the 50/50, which Jim Atkins (aka Jimmy Mau)
won. Jim generously donated half of his $300 back to the Breast Cancer
3-Day.
Everyone had a great time and the memories of this day will help me during
my three-day 60-mile trek from Tempe Lake Park to Rawhide in North Scottsdale.
Come out and cheer me on. Speaking from experience, I'll need it.
It is important we don’t lose track of why we held the event. October
is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Ask yourself, do I or anyone I know
need to get a mammogram?
Until you hear from me next month after the 60 miles, take care of yourself;
and if you are out and about looking for a friendly neighborhood bar,
stop by Dave's Place and enjoy a cold one. Listen to some great tunes
and play some darts. League play starts October 9th. See you there!
