Womens Cup Marked by Skill
Wah Long at Dawsons
By Joseph Mathias
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and representing Wah Long in the Women’s Cup challenge were the best all-female team they could muster; Trish Brown, Lori Low, Anita Taoipu and Mina Bear headed for Dawson’s Bar & Grill in Tacoma. For today they would challenge the likes of Kelly Pappuzza, Stacy Gustafson, Angie Bakko and Jenny Wood for the highly-coveted Women’s Cup.
I’m telling you what, the girls came with their A game. Lori’s Low Ton and Anita’s 71 out-the-hard-way helped Wah Long to a one-game advantage.
In game two, Angie and Stacy each hit Low Tons to put Dawson’s on the scoreboard.
When game three rolled around, you would’ve thought it was a high-rated matchup as each player hit multiple 3, 4, and 5-counts, but it would be Dawson’s who would come out on top to take the game and the lead, 2-1.
Over the next nine games it seemed Wah Long could do no wrong, even though each game went down to the very end. As evidenced in game seven, where the game had to be extended to get a winner. Wah Long continued on to a 9-2 lead after eleven.
Dawson’s put an end to their streak in game twelve when Stacy hit a Low Ton and Jenny took the game out with a 30 to make it 9-3.
Another close one next, both teams busted on their out, but Wah Long would finally hit the out and after a couple more hard fought games, it was 11-4, Wah Long.
Mina and Anita really showed they wanted to win this match when they stepped up and took game sixteen. Trish and Lori hit big darts to win in the 17th as Wah Long extended their lead to 13-4.
Just when you think Wah Long is running away with it, Dawson’s drew from their championship inner-powers in game 19, and then pulled out a 7-count from Kelly, a 6-count from Stacy to win them a game. Dawsons went on to win the next five games to bring the score to 14-10 after 24 games.
However, it was Wah Long who would run off with the next three games and take the match, 17-10.
Wah Long takes home the cash and the trophy! Awesome job girls! They will anxiously await their first challenger. That was an impressive win against a very tough Dawson’s team, who assured us they will be back to reclaim their trophy. Gotta love it!
