Wah Long provides a purpose

By Ty Hughes

Jimmy, Jayleen, Sinh and the whole gang gathered at Wah Long Sportsbar on Saturday, March 7th for the big birthday celebration of Sinh and Tony.

Sixteen teams came out for the event, meeting the 16 team minimum requirement for the $1,000 Payout. The room was packed with all the familiar faces in darts, plus a few new ones ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú at least for me. First place walked away with $380 in winnings that night. Not bad for a night of entertainment, I’d say.

I had the opportunity to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones. It was really cool to talk to Cal, who’s been local to the Tyee area since 1968. Talk about a hometown boy!

Met a guy named David, who was wearing a Lane Staley tee shirt. Being a hardcore Alice in Chains fan, I asked him if he was too. David went on to tell me that his late sister Demri was engaged to Lane Staley, and that Lane used to babysit him when he was just a boy. David said he knew Lane’s parents real well too. How cool is that?! So many people right under our noses, so many cool stories.

Tony and Sinh enjoyed the birthday wishes and being among good friends. Trish and Chad, Chris, Jason ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú everybody was in “Saturday Night” mode and lovin’ the weekend. Even Pat Gorman came out for some fun on the boards with his old buddies. And there were even a couple of beautiful ladies, Lisa and Dani, to surround him for his signature photo opportunity.

Jimmy’s sisters covered the bar and the kitchen, keeping everyone lathered up and well fed. Let me tell you, if you like your drinks stiff and your Chinese food the best it can possibly be, then you’ve got to get on over to Wah Long in Burien. The people are totally cool, and there’s never a shortage of dart players willing to engage in a game or two any time of any day.

Wah Long hosted another dart shoot on March 21st inviting league players to join a team for the Spring Medalist season, where they offered free food to the players, courting them in order to secure their loyalty for the upcoming season of darts.

Wah Long Sportsbar provides two weekly dart tournaments over and above their special event tournaments, every Thursday and Sunday night. Both are $300 Added shoots and get started around 9pm. Come on out to Wah Long and meet some new folks, play some darts and enjoy a fabulous dinner and drinks with Jimmy, Jayleen and the gang. This is a true dart house and it’s located right in the heart of Burien on 153rd and Ambaum Blvd. SW. Bust out of your comfort zone and say hello to someone you don’t already know. Find out what they’re all about, where they came from and where they’re going. You’ll be amazed at the stories you’ll hear!
