R Bar is our bar!
By Ty Hughes
Terrance was long gone when I pulled into the parking lot at the R Bar in Renton. His day job was expecting him to be in the office early the next morning. Chuck Conner was handed the dart chart and a quick word of encouragement, and he was gone.
Other than that, it was a typical Friday night at the R Bar on Friday, November 12 when they presented another signature big-money payout for the month. Twelve teams competed for a thousand dollar payout in a Cricket Only shootout. Nobody was sure where all the players went that night, but they weren’t at their regular hangout, the R Bar, for their big monthly shoot.
Fortunately, this didn’t stop those that did come out from having a great night at the boards. In fact, if anything, they were able to really buckle down and get some dart practice in without all that pesky social distraction.
When I walked through the doors around midnight, Chuck had whittled the tourney down to the top three teams, and the Sinh/Adam duo had just been knocked out, settling for 3rd Place. Of course Sinh would have nothing to do with any pictures. He was upset at the loss and according to his partner, was anything but kind. Sometimes I wonder what exactly keeps him coming back for more, time after time. They put fifty bucks in their pockets and disappeared into the night.
Next up was the final match of the night… sweet! Brett and Juan, down from the north, held firmly to the driver’s seat in the winner’s bracket, while coming in from the loser’s bracket was Chuck and Sam. These are a couple of very tough teams getting ready to go at it. Several folks pulled up a chair to watch the final set.
It was around this time that the trash talkin’ really got going. All friendly and harmless, but stabbing nonetheless… that’s the point of it, right?
Everybody was enjoying the R Bar party scene. Just ask Jay Birkland who hung around for the finals. Codi and Tracy migrated over to the pool tables, which were crazy busy with people just hanging out, drinkin’ and playin’. The dart boards were all beepin’ and buzzin’ and going nuts with casual play. Good times.
Sam wins the cork and chooses to go first. Juan chose to play ’01 for the sixth and final game of the night. Brett was confused and a bit disappointed that Juan chose ’01 rather than Cricket, which is standard in a championship match.
Sam/Chuck took the first set from Brett/Juan as they were slow to pick up the pace that got them there in the first place. Brett quickly found his darts, but Juan wasn’t able to put together a solid game. Sam/Chuck were able to take them to six games and put away the match and the tournament for that night.
Brett/Juan snagged a hundred twenty bucks for their 2nd Place finish. Sam/Chuck cleaned up the board with decisive authority to claim the title of tournament champs. They grabbed a couple hundred bucks and shook hands all the way around, making it official. Way to go dudes!
See R Bar’s ad for details and dates on their next big monthly shoot coming up in December. Be there or be square!
