Cricket Only at R Bar

On August 14, 2009 the newly repainted RBar hosted their monthly Cricket Only and Brian Buxton’s Birthday Party tournament. Boy oh boy, it was a smashing success. We had 40 teams with players from all over, along with their friends and families out to watch. Brian must be a popular man.

The tournament got off to a late start due to one dart player receiving a $300 ticket from our lovely Washington State Patrol, no names need to be mentioned though (Um, Aaron), but I guess that’s the price we pay at times to win it all.

The tournament consisted of a wide range of teams from a 4-point total to the 20-point max, and with that range of difference in skill, it made for some interesting matches. All in all, it was a peaceful night.

Of course we had the match of the night that brought everyone’s attention to the board, between Melvin/Mikki and Steve (Stinky)/Tommy. This was a great match and even though there was a lot of jabbering between the two teams, they all shook hands and shared a drink. This is what darts is all about.

The bar added an additional $200 dollars to the prize pool due to the amount of teams, bringing the total payout to over $1400 cash! Thanks Sean!

The night ended around 2:30am when Kevin and Nico defeated Pat and Kelly in the finals. Sinh and Lynsey took the third spot on the podium.

It was great to see a lot of old friends and acquaintances, and make some new ones. I was happy to see John and Yelena out with John’s nephew Danny. I got some very surprising news; John and Yelena were expecting?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ congrats! Glad to see everyone out from Tacoma, Wah Long, Pickled Onion, Cloud 9, Tigers, and many other locations. I would like to also thank Robert Brown and Rick Clark – great to see you and thanks for your support. Plus, a big thanks to the bar staff and owner Sean for their service behind the bar. Even though you probably wanted to kill me with that many people in the building.
