Weekly Dart Shoots at Mustard Seed
By Ty Hughes
Those guys over at the Mustard Seed in Newport Hills are getting all excited about darts again, which we advocate heavily.
Ken Wiles, Mustard Seed’s owner, has reintroduced the game into his own schedule and noticed a growing number of players beginning to gather at his bar.
Dart leagues have always been part of the Mustard Seed, and now Ken, Bert, Nick, and all of those beautiful ladies; Esther, Brittany, Marissa, and Rosa that make the Mustard Seed tick, are kickin’ it up a notch! Last month, they rolled out a weekly Friday night dart shoot, and they were getting a solid eight teams right off the bat. However, starting in August, the Mustard Seed will move their weekly shoot to Saturday nights at 7:30pm Start instead. Hopefully this will allow for an even bigger turnout. Friday night tournaments are pretty well covered in the East Renton/Bellevue area, so Saturday seemed an obvious choice.
Mustard Seed players are fired up! The love of the game is the driving force here. These guys are anxious to get a game in, and deploy their personally-crafted strategies. Nick just made his innaugural trip to the Pit a couple seasons ago, and Ken and Bert are both shooting off the hook!
Chris “The Mayor” Mainella is the man about town when you come out to shoot next Saturday. He’s got a unique approach to running a tournament utilizing technology to it’s potential. Chris runs the whole tourney chart on his iPad!
“There’s an App for that!” He says. It’s the coolest thing to see. The entire chart and all the player’s names are displayed right on his screen. When a match is over, the winning player reports to Chris, who taps the screen and their name automatically advances in the proper place in the chart. Eventually, Chris wants to hook his iPad into the flatscreen TVs around the dart area for even better visibility! How cool is that?!
Saturdays are all Parity Draws at the Mustard Seed, and the sign ups start at 7pm. Entry fee is $10 per player, and the bar pays out 150%.
They’ve got four boards, amazing food (some of the area’s most elite and famous eat here), comfortable seating, a big pull tab bar, and great Ladies Night specials on dart night!
Everybody’s super nice and friendly, and the service is tops, no kidding. Snag those darts and head out to the Mustard Seed this Saturday night for a fun Parity Draw with Chris “The Mayor” Mainella and his fancy iPad tournament! You’re going to leave with a whole new appreciation for life!
