Mixed Limited Cup goes rounds
By Joseph Mathias
Saturday, February 20; It was a beautiful summer day… er, no it’s a beautifully sunny winter day at Jimmy Jacks in Lynnwood and two teams have gathered to battle for the Mixed Limited Cup. Representing Jimmy Jacks was Robert Ancog, Tami Payne, David Ortmann and Joanna Ortmann.
Jimmy Jacks was defending their cup against an O’Henry’s team, all the way up from Puyallup, including Marcie Chaput, Brenda Soria, Chris Vaughn and Brookes Marbett. The match started out rough with both teams busting game one a couple of times, but it would be O’Henry’s that would finally end the game. Then, after Robert and Tami both hit Low Tons to win game two, O’Henry’s Marcie would hit a 5-count in the first Cricket game, and to follow that up Brookes would nail a White Horse and run away with game three.
O’Henry’s continued their strong Cricket play to extend their lead by two, but with back-to-back Hat Tricks coming from Brookes and Chris, O’Henry’s extended their lead after 11 games to 8-3. And just when you think Jimmy Jacks is finished, in game 13, Robert hit a couple of 6-counts, and in game 14, David stepped it up with some power shots of his own to help Jimmy Jacks get their first three wins in a row.
The teams traded games back and forth before Jimmy Jacks stepped it up again, and after 24 games, the score was tied 12-12. O’Henry’s, who was upset over letting a 5-game lead slip away, stepped back up to win games 25 and 26 to regain a 2-game lead. Once again both teams took turns winning games, but as they’ve done all day, the O’Henry’s team won game 31 to win the match and bring the Mixed Memorial Cup home to Puyallup. They were proud to present O’Henry’s with their very first challenge cup.
Jimmy Jacks fought hard to overcome a 5-game deficit and at one point, made the match close.
Congratulations to O’Henry’s on winning an exciting and fun to watch match!
