Legends are made of these
By Ty Hughes
How do you build a successful bar? Cliff Satterwhite knows.
Friday and Saturday nights at Legends bar, inside the Lakewood Denny’s, is quite the party with all the southend dart players venturing out for some quality social time with friends. They know that this is where their friends will be too.
Legends has grown like wildfire, and continues to grow, under the direction of our friends Cliff and Janell Satterwhite. They have some experience in building, not only a popular dart program, but also a bustling bar atmosphere that attracts the crowds. Having opened and started several ‘brand new’ rooms over the years, Cliff and Janell, carry the secret to success, and Legends is currently the beneficiary of this valuable knowledge. Maybe one day this will turn into a consultation career for them one day.
Friday night Parity Draw tournaments at Legends continue to grow in size. Cliff and the gang will typically pull in around 20 teams every week… for a Parity Draw! See, I knew it could work! It just took the Satterwhite master stroke to become a reality.
Certainly there is an entire checklist to creating a successful dart house, and much of it lies between Cliff’s cute little ears, but from our vantage point, there are several key elements to Legends’ popularity that jump out immediately.
First, you’ll notice an entire wall dedicated to the latest version of the Medalist Avanti dart boards, a draw in and of themselves. The entire bar is not too big or too small. They’ve got a ton of seating leading away from the stand-up tables in front of the boards, to the back of the room where Cliff’s karaoke sound system and stage taunts the budding entertainer.
Of course, the bar runs along one side to the rear and runs flush with the wall, so no valuable floor space is hijacked by the bar. The bar staff is friendly and grateful for the dart players, and players enjoy quick and easy access to, basically their own bar.
Everybody is in the place, all your buds play at Legends.
Between the karaoke and the dart boards is where the real action is. This is where the big deals are scribbled on cocktail napkins… where the rubber meets the road, as it were.
Eddie Heyman is back in town, and excited about introducing everyone to his new fiancée, Deby. He says he’s back from his business travel for good, and is genuinely glad to be home finally. Deby’s a sweetheart and will do a fine job at keeping our Eddie happy and contented. Congratulations to you both on finding each other!
Marci and Brenda were each celebrating their birthdays when we came by on August 7th for Legend’s big monthly $750 Payout dart shoot. And when Marci and Brenda celebrate, we ALL celebrate! Ain’t that right, party people?!
Titus was all giddy with his new girlfriend on his arm. Laura is experiencing a full immersion into the world that is darts, and she still has a smile on her face. Maybe she’ll survive afterall!
Jimmy Allen was in da house and looking spry. His focus is back on his dart game, so watch out Tacoma!
Meanwhile, Janell is over there running the tournament charts. She’s gotten awfully good at this and gets a thumbs up from the players. Cliff is on the microphone in the back of the room, calling out drink specials, inviting everyone up to the stage for a bit o’ karaoke, if you will.
