Join in the dart mayhem at Dawson’s
By Ty Hughes
So how come I never see any of you Northenders down at Dawson’s in Tacoma? I always see Southenders travel north, but it’s a well known fact that Northenders won’t travel for darts, unless it’s for a Challenge Cup or State maybe.
Well, if there was ever a reason to travel people, then Dawson’s is it! Check this out. It’s a muggy warm, wet, rainy night in Tacoma on the corner of 56th and South Tacoma Way. Dawson’s throws up the garage door basically taking out the front wall and opening it up to the patio. We could feel the wind on the back of our neck and enjoy the elements as we sipped a cold beer, and chatted with friends.
Dawson’s is amazing in the dart business. They’ve become known as Tacoma’s powerhouse in the dart biz. They have weekly shoots on Wednesdays and Sundays, plus once a month for their $1000 payout shoot, they pack the place to the gills with incredible people and amazing dart players.
On Saturday, September 18, Gerald ran the tournament and signed up 20 teams. Snoop and Dave, a.k.a. Pretty Boy were off in the corner playing money games, trash talkin’ and throwin’ 20s around. They had already been put out of the tournament, but Snoop had a busy day regardless. He and Al Rucks had just taken first place in the Home Plate in-house finals tournament, and he won the Starlight tournament too!
Ken and James, two that travel, were glad to be back to their winning ways after a self-described dry spell for them as a team. Although tonight would not be their night, there were players here tonight hungry for a win, maybe hungrier than Ken and James.
The party rages on. Trina and her friends behind the bar keep the place tip-top. It was a bunch of little parties making up one big party. So good to catch up with people I hadn’t seen in quite a while.
As for the tournament, Jeff and his son, Sean took fourth place and 80 bucks. They said that if they put their money together, they might be able to pay half their tab with it. Mark and Adam were stoked to land in third place, stuffing their pockets with $180 cash – what a country!
But in the end, it was Ron and Kelly versus David and Mickey in the finals, where the latter arose victorious. Ron and Kelly snagged second place, and 280 bucks, while David and Mickey took top honors and $380 in cash! Who says Dawson’s doesn’t pay?
Check out their ad, plan a night out at Dawson’s Bar & Grill, and you’ll understand why people love it here. If you’re into darts, and/or music besides, all of the obvious. Then you need to check out Dawson’s, located at 5443 S. Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA (253) 476-1421.
