Flights is Mui Caliente!

What happens when you bring 66 people, 8 dartboards, and the August sun to a great bar? You get Flight’s Annual Hot August Nights, that’s what you get!
Thirty-three teams turned out to shoot in the sunshine for Hot August Nights’ day shoot on August 11. It was a Mixed Doubles shoot, requiring a male/female teams. That made it so much more even, and also makes for a great time, even for the lower rated players, me included.
Ray and Mary Cowles, Dart Coordinators at Flights, did a great job of pairing up the players. At least one couple, who had never met, ended up connecting in a big way (thanks guys – the date was a blast)!
Together, they ran the tournament perfectly, it was a huge success. With four boards inside and four boards outside, the tournament moved along at a pretty good pace. Although with so many teams, there was still plenty of time for socializing in between matches.
The amazing staff at Flights Pub kept the crowd fed and watered. They worked hard to make sure everybody received their drinks, and the food was delivered to the right place, despite the fact that we were moving around between the indoor boards and the outdoor boards.
Flight’s Owner, Ty Franzer was participating, making sure everyone was having a good time. His infectious smile and great big hugs made everyone feel welcome, and part of the Flight’s Family.
Hot August Nights brought out a bunch of players who haven’t been seen in awhile, which made it even better! It’s a great testament to Ray and Mary’s coordinating style, that for some folks, it is one of the few tournaments they shoot during the summer.
There was a ton of great music playing during the shoot. Polecat kept the party rockin’. Anyone who walked in would see us all dancing and singing along to the music. And by the way, Mark Hinton has some serious moves! The laughter and smiles as we all celebrated summer, darts, and friendships made for a fantastic afternoon. Even those who got out of the tournament early stuck around to see how it might end. Many of them found partners for the $300 Added Cricket Only shoot later that evening, and continued the party long into the night.
Just as people were signing up for the evening shoot, the afternoon tournament was wrapping up. It was a hard-fought battle, especially outside where the wind was picking up a bit. In the end, Daniel Ayers and Kim Washburn, in the Driver’s Seat the whole day, emerged victorious over Mark Hinton and Stephanie Stotesbury. Way to go guys! And thanks to Flights for a wonderful Hot August Nights celebration – can’t wait until next year!
