The Women’s cup gets me all the way down to Tacoma at Dawson’s where Kelly Pappuza, Stacy Gustafson, Pat Owings and Louise Jones defended their cup.
They were being challenged by Cloud 9’s best in Vicky Hill, Yelena Husman, Tia Russo and Krystina Grachek.
Once the match got going, all eight women were firing off Low Tons. Yelena, in the first game, enjoyed a Hat Trick, and Vicky did the same in game two to give Cloud 9 the early 2-0 lead.
They split the next two games. Dawson’s would fire back and win their first three in a row of the match to gain the lead at 4-3. Cloud 9 came back in game eight to tie it up at 4-4, but Dawson’s would rally with their second three in a row set – Kelly and Stacy’s biggest games of the match – to take the lead once again, 7-4.
Although Cloud 9 would continue to bring it game after game, the Dawson’s team stayed strong and maintained their 3-game lead after 18 games, 11-8. Neither team let up on the gas, all the girls continued to battle in each game, hitting big darts. Cloud 9 team, showing no quit, got to within one game of Dawson’s after winning games 26 and 27 to bring the score to 14-13.
Dawson’s powered through game 29, coming from way behind, and then attacked the Cloud 9 girls in game 30 to win the match and retain the Women’s Cup title and trophy.
Congratulations to both Cloud 9 and Dawson’s for a well-fought battle. There were only 2 or 3 games where it was obvious who would win it, the rest were all down to the wire and very exciting.
Also, thanks to the great barstaff at Dawson’s. The bartender Chelsea, and Bill the cook both did a great job – drinks were never empty and it seemed like everyone was eating and happy.
Dawson’s assured me they were ready for whomever wants to challenge them next. Good luck guys… er, I mean ladies.

Once again, the Women’s Cup was being defended by Dawson’s Kelly Pappuza, Stacy Gustafson, Pat Owings and Louise Jones. This time, they are being challenged by the ladies from O’Henry’s Sportsbar in Puyallup; Jodi Patterson, Marcie Chaput, DeeDee Johnson and Angela Vaughan-Hefner.
The battle heated up quickly as every shooter started off with Low Tons on their first time up to the line, but O’Henry’s would hold on to win game one. In game two, Jodi and DeeDee hit Hat Tricks but it would be Kelly’s D19 to take out game two and tie the match at 1-1.
Things slowed down a bit as both teams split the next few games. In game seven, Kelly would celebrate her birthday with a White Horse, followed by two 5-counts to help her team to a 4-3 lead. After splitting the next two games, O’Henry’s would step it up to win the next three games, taking the first two-game lead of the match, 7-5 after 12.
Dawson’s decided enough was enough and ran off three of their own to regain a one-game lead after 15, 8-7. Then, when tied up again 9-9, Dawson’s ran off another three in a row to take what would be the largest lead of the match, 12-9.
As the day was winding down, O’Henry’s continued to battle back. They finally tied it back up in game 32 to force a rubber game. O’Henry’s jumped out to an early lead, but following a flurry of Low Tons, the Dawson’s team would battle back to win the game and the match. All eight shooters had a shot at a one dart out, but it was Louise showing her cool side… Game, Set, Match!
Great match, and fun to watch! Way to go Dawson’s on retaining their Women’s Cup through yet another tough challenge.
Oh, and a very Happy Birthday to Kelly Pappuza!
