Cosmic in Edmonds

By Ty Hughes

Deep in the heart of Edmonds, just a stone’s throw from the Edmonds to Kingston Ferry dock, sits one of the most fabulous restaurants in town. That’s right, it’s the Channel Marker Pub & Grill, also a well-known sports pub with pool, gaming, and darts, of course.

Owners, Brent and Jan Minster, are both dart enthusiasts, having played season after season for many years. Ever since taking over in their plush waterfront location, darts has been a major focus. Weekly and monthly tournament offerings draw a modest group of faithfuls. They always have room for more shooters on Fridays and Saturdays at the Channel Marker. Grab your buddies and come down a bit early for a killer dinner and some darts.

Jan works closely with her dart coordinators, Michelle and Renee, to keep the interest. On Friday and Saturday nights, you’ll find the dart room in back full of fun-loving party people, just having a great time.

They’re always up to something around here. In December, it was all about the kids. Jan and her crew have made a difference for so many less fortunate families in her community over the years. Toys For Tots is another of her passions, so each year, they’ll host a couple dart tournament events and give the players free entry if they bring a toy. Most don’t even play along, but they do show up. I’ve seen ginormous mounds of donations at the Channel Marker over the years. Kudos to the Channel Marker team for sure!

Each month, you’ll enjoy a range of tournament concepts to hold your interest. Jan is always brainstorming, and coming up with fun ideas.

Currenly, she’s got Michelle and Renee running Cosmic Darts and Burlap Shoots, pulling in around 12-16 teams usually.

Dustin brought his friend Mandy, a bartender at Ringer’s, for her very 1st dart tournament that night. She was ecstatic to be at the Channel Marker playing that night.

Don finally convinced his wife Darcie to hop a ferry from their home in Kingston, take a short ride across the Puget Sound, and walk to the Channel Marker for a dart tournament. Course, she wasn’t about to play, she was just along for moral support, which suited Don just fine. At least she had come.

Usually, he plays with his regular partner, John, who wasn’t here tonight. They’re new to soft tip darts, but have already traveled as far as Montana to play. They love the game, they’re good folk, and they’re hangin’ out at the Channel Marker.

By the way, if you run into Don and Darcie, be sure and ask him about his job over there… fascinating.

Bring your Medalist league dart teams down to the Channel Marker on Lucky Friday the 13th and Saturday, January 14 for their League Sign Up Party. Play on their boards, get a feel for the place, the staff, the food, etc. Consider signing up to play on a Channel Marker team next season. Sign ups close on the 17th, so time’s awastin’. I understand that they get spoiled real good by a caring bunch.

After you get your team signed up for next season, come out the next weekend and practice up in the Cosmic shoots, followed by their exciting Burlap Sack Shoots on the last weekend of January.

Check out their ad on page 7 for details, and stop by for cocktails!
