Challenge Cup Committee makes changes

Challenge Cup Committee makes changes

By Scott Kringle,, Challenge Cup Director

Sunday, March 14, 2010 – Scott Kringle, Challenge Cup Director, called a mandatory meeting of Cup Committee members, the first of two this year. Ringer’s Bar & Grill in Mountlake Terrace was gracious enough to host the meeting, going above and beyond by supplying a favorable atmosphere and lunch for those attending.

And those attending Committee members were Scott Kringle, Todd Jordan, Joseph Mathias, Karen Kringle, Brian Harris, Tamra Easley, and Ty Hughes. Those member not able to attend were Janis Donahue-Baker and Jayleen Latimer.

Also, let’s give our newest Cup Committee members, Richard Baker and Jennifer Wood, a great big welcome! We appreciate your input.

After roll call, Scott passed out an updated phone and email sheet to be completed by all members.

The first line of business was to go over all the rules for the Women’s Cup, which has experienced many changes as of late. A number of rules and requirement changes pertaining to the Women’s Cup were voted on by all members. First, the total team point cap will now be 17. Furthermore, the Team 901 games have been changed to 701, and the 701 games to 501, in order to speed up the matches. See all Cup rules and requirements online at www.themedallion.net.

Next up, the committee voted on the application of the 3-Game Rule for each individual Cup. It was proposed to eliminate the 3-Game Rule from all but three Cups; Women’s, Novice and Hot Shot Cups. These Cups will be closely observed for the three months, allowing both teams the opportunity to honor the 3-Game Rule or not. After three months, the majority vote will decide whether the 3-Game Rule stays in effect or is removed from these Cups for all future matches.

The next order of business was to add an amendment to Rule #9. The addition reads as follows; 9a: Cancellation and/or postponement requests must be called in to the Cup Coordinator and or the opposing team’s Captain no later than 72 hours prior to any scheduled match. Cancellations or postponements will not be accepted during the 72 hours leading up to the pre-scheduled event and will be considered a forfeit (see Rule #11).

At no time will any location or player set up a challenge date without first involving the Cup Coordinator representing that Cup. Violation of this rule will result in the forfeiture of the Cup in question (if owned), and/or the removal of the location from that Cup’s list of challengers. Committee members unanimously agreed that this rule would not be taken lightly, and there will be no leniency on this matter.

Next on the docket to be discussed was a major point of contention with regard to all Challenge Cups. Cup Coordinators MUST attend ALL previously schedules matches.

“It is our duty to not only set up the matches, but to also be available to cover them”, Scott said. “This means an article for the paper and a photo of the winning team”.

It is critically important that our Cup Coordinators be available for any controversies that might arise. Scott went on to say that he is actively searching for three more Cup Coordinators, and subsequent Committee Members.

“We desperately need Cup Coordinators for the Tacoma, Lakewood area”, Scott urged. If interested, please call Scott Kringle at (425) 770-4030 or email him at Scottk1025@aol.com.

Also introduced was the concept of team photo sales. If any player wants an 8×10 team photo, please give your information and $10.00 to the Cup Coordinator at the time of the shoot. A glossy photo of you and your team partners will be mailed to you abruptly.

We would like to thank Brett, Owner of Ringer’s in Mountlake Terrace, for sponsoring our closed-door meeting and his amazing staff for their unparalleled service and respect.

Please keep in mind that as we go forward it is very important we maintain thorough communication with the bars, players, and each other. If for any reason any of you are having a problem with scheduling your cups or having them covered, please call Scott Kringle immediately at (425) 770-4030 to resolve any issues.

Remember, these Cups are designed in the spirit of good-sportsmanship, fun, and camaraderie. Let’s maintain a sense of professionalism when representing a location during all cup matches. Thanks and good luck!
