All wet for Hot August Nights

By Ty Hughes

Seventeen years ago, the owner of Kodiak Ron’s Pub had a vision. It was the biggest party to be found. The antics of that weekend spawned an annual tradition that is rich with history.

Now Flights, same bar, different owner, still carries the torch nearly two decades later! The 16th Annual Hot August Nights affair was awesome this year! Now the 2nd longest-running annual darting event in Western Washington (2nd only to the Cat Fight) came and went Saturday, August 14, and all we’re left with are the memories and a handful of photographs. If you weren’t a part of it, then you’ll have to rely on this report to understand what you missed, but it just isn’t the same as being there. Every year is different, believe me. But, if you ask the hundred or so dart players that did make it out last month, you’ll get a better idea about of how fun it was.

Attending players were treated to many lavish gifts and experiences. Lucky, Ty, Ray and Mary, Adam, Mike, the whole lot of ‘em at Flights laid out a fantastic day of fun in the sun, complete with a full-sized dunk tank right in the middle of the parking lot! Even the beautiful Jager girl wanted to be dunked and there weren’t a lot of objections from the guys.

The darts began to fly early on the 14th, with a mixed doubles shoot. Players enjoyed the outdoor dart set under the canopy in the blazing sunshine. The ladies were scantily clad and running at party speed. Ty and his wife, Jen appreciated all the support this year, and say thanks to those that came out and made it a special weekend.

Lucky was on the mic, giving away about a million grab bags filled with all kinds of goodies, including T’shirts, hats, bras, lights, shot glasses, more clothing items, other stuff and then some more on top of that! It was crazy how much awesome swag was raffled off! Seemed like just about everyone walked away with an entire bag of goodies. And it wasn’t like they were all the same either, I think Bui’s bag had an old rusty button in it is all, but Mary Jo made out! She kept pulling the coolest stuff out of her bag and all the girls gathered around to help and ogle her fortunes.

Shon and Sarah took the first tourney of the day, and Shon even won the Bounty cash too!

There were lotsa kissing girls (like on the lips kissing) and boobie-touchin’. Of course, I stayed well behind my camera, where I was safe. Until that one moment when I get up, and instantly my camera makes its rounds through the speech-impaired. I got some very interesting photos back, let me tell ya. If you ever want to really know somebody, leave a camera hangin’ around. I am but a tool meant to bring it to you the public by way of photography, that’s it, that’s all. What did Col. Klink used to say? “I SAW NUTT’INK!”

Seriously though, always a great time at Flights and the crowd was diggin’ the outdoor beer garden with two separate rooms, a dunk tank and a line of dart boards. Check out all those photos, by the way, they’re all posted on our Facebook page and on the Web site. Good times! …Jackie, I never knew.

I bet Jackie McWain has been to every single Hot August Nights there ever was. If anybody has been, it’s her. How ‘bout it Jackie? Who’s been to every one of these? Lucky! Lucky has been I bet.

Have we even mentioned the food yet?! Wow! The BBQ was cranked up and the lips were a’smackin’! I had some myself, and I’m pretty sure I was in a trance until my plate was empty, it was so good. Don and Lucky said, “you got a little on your face, right here Ty”, pointing at themselves. But I could barely see them through the layers of caked-on barbeque sauce in my eye. So, when I could finally breathe again, I thanked Adam for making my day that much better. Awesome!

There were some outstanding food and drink specials for everyone to enjoy throughout the day too!

All in all, the day was incredible. Everybody had a smile on, especially Jen who flitted around as pure energy. Thanks to Flights for the memorable day under what was truly a hot August night to remember.
