A little help for an old friend
Attention dart players! One of our fellow dart players is in dire need of financial help.
Many of you know Lenna Shiley from soft-tip and steel-tip darts. Lenna’s son Skylar is very sick with an incurable blood disorder and they stand to lose their home if something doesn’t change soon.
Once a 285-pound lineman at Newport High School, Skylar has lost over 125 pounds and is trapped at home, his education and football dreams lost to years of illness. Moreover, he has been denied SSA Disablility.
“Skylar is a wonderful son and an awesome father. Even in his illness, he has given all that he can to friends and family”, Lenna says.
“We are just having a terrible time. Skylar has been living in my condo, but now with his girlfriend gone, there is no one paying any rent and my disability ran out in December. We both have SSDI cases in appeal, but we have to wait for the government to make the final decision.”
“Skylar was able to get food stamps and medical for himself and the baby, but they just can’t help us with rent or any bills (like power), so that’s what I am trying
to find help with.”
Carol Herriott, Lenna’s friend in darts, organized a fundraising effort in January at the Home Plate’s Tacoma Open Steel Tip event. By raffling off dart shirts and other items, they were able to raise $221.00 for Lenna and Skylar. With a big thanks to the Canadian players, some of whom donated without even coming to the tournament.
Lenna and friends have set up a donation account at Bank Of America called the Skylar Drew Smith Medical Fund, where you can easily make a donation. Anything helps.
“We really appreciate your charitable contributions to help us through this tough time. I so miss all of my friends in darts and hope that someday I will be healthy enough to come back and play!”
Sincerely,
Lenna Shiley
