$1200 payout at Dawsons draws a crowd

By Doug Steinberg
Saturday, February 19 – We decided it was time to head south to Tacoma and see what was happening at Dawson’s. We knew we would be in for a good time, as Dawson’s is always a fun place to go for darts, pool, or just to hang out and visit with friends.
We showed up about 8pm, and the place was packed with more teams still pouring in. There were tons of familiar faces, and new shooters as well.
My partner Brenda Mitchell (#1555) was excited to be there and see a lot of her old friends and former dart partners from Dawson’s.
We were actually greeted by Dawson’s Tournament Coordinator, Kim Allen. I asked about the raffle tickets for the 40” flat screen TV they were giving away that night. She said that it was for Dawson’s league players only, yet another great reason to join the Dawsons’s family of dart teams.
We checked in our team and found the last two seats in the house. The final teams checked in and an incredible 35 teams went down on the chart. Kim got the tournament started promptly at 8:30pm. It was a 19 Pt. Doubles Bring with a Female Bonus Point, Medley format. And there was some real nice prize money on the line too. Bar owner Kenny added $200 extra dollars to the advertised $1000 payout due to the extreme turnout. “Way to go Kenny!”
The $1200 payout was broken down to pay two 5th place teams at $70 each: Jeff/Sean, and Mike/Able. Fourth place paid $130 to Brad/Arlene; third place $180 to Pre/Mickey; second place $300 went to Rodney/Dean; and the first place prize of $400 went to Bob/Ellen. Rodney and Dean came from the losing bracket, battling really hard to bring it to the last match of the night. They finished up at 3:45am.
The lucky winner for the 40” TV was one very happy Talya Soria!
It was a great time for everybody who came out, with some awesome matches going on all night long. Some new shooters, Andrew and Theo Porter, were up from Olympia for their first-ever Medalist dart shoot. They said, “We’re having a great time and we’ll be back soon!”
I am sure a lot of players will be back again as it was another great time at Dawson’s Bar & Grill, where the staff and people are always friendly and fun.
