Women’s Cup victory

By Tamra Easley

It was Saturday, November 14th, when Dawson’s Kelly Papuzza, Brigette Bryant, Stacy Gustafsen and Louise Jones met up with Wah Long’s Trish Brown, Heather Salsibury, Ling Tham and Anita Taipei to shoot the newly revamped Women’s Cup.

The ladies started early, they wanted to take advantage of the open space around them before the 4×7 Cup kicked off on the next board over.

Take advantage they did, Dawson’s sprinted out to a quick 4-1 lead. This lead was quickly reduced to zero when Wah Long took the next three games straight to tie the match up.

Dawson’s caught fire in game nine, averaging a Low Ton for each player. They maintained a two game leading into the second series of team 701 games. That lead was extended to three games, 9-6, upon completion.

Anita’s ten year old daughter was one of two students chosen out of the entire elementary to represent her school in a reading competition. Congratulations to the Taoipu’s on their child’s accomplishment.

And Stacy has taken her fitness to a new level, walking up to nine miles a day several times a week coupled with a new dietary program. She’s not far from reaching her goal, keep stepping and good luck!

Ling was antsy. She would be boarding a plane shortly after this match to fly to the other Washington and visit her sick brother in time for his birthday.

Dawson’s continued to hold their three-game lead until game 20, where Wah Long took this and the following game to pull back within one 11-10. Kelly put on her sexy shoes to step up and take out game 25 with a 123 (S15, T19, T17).

Game 29 found Dawson’s on the hill 16-12, with their first successful defense within fingertips’ reach. Wah Long refused to go quietly into the night, the game had a final score of 720-647, conceded by Dawson’s after the extended round option was accidentally passed, prematurely ending the game.

Wah Long proved to still have yet more fight in their veins, all together they rolled off four in a row to tie the match 16-16, they almost didn’t succeed with the tie. Dawson’s had hightailed it to the out, then the S9 stuck time and time again allowing Wah Long to come from way behind to win the game, forcing a game 33.

Refusing to have a repeat performance of the prior game, Dawson’s sealed the deal with a queenly showing of their dart skills.

Congrats ladies. Anyone wanting to come get some of this, Dawson’s says, “Bring It On Baby”!
