Women’s Cup on the move

By Scott Kringle

On October 17, 2009 the Women’s Cup finally came alive again after many months of inactivity. Lowering the point max to 17 total team points, plus dropping the player and house fees also helped bring this cup back to life.

Before the match started, Scott Kringle (Cup Director) went over all the rules, one being the team 901 games. He put up for vote the option to change these games to 701, due to the six hour matches necessary to complete the challenge. After each team thought about it, they decided to play 901 team and 701 in doubles. So the match started at 1:15pm and finished up at 6:55pm, for a 5-hour and 40 minute match.

Cloud 9, the defending champion of the cup, rolled out Vicki, Amy, Debi, and Krystina to compete with Dawson’s Kelly, Brigette, Stacy, and Pat. Dawson’s team had a fan-base of six to ten people and Cloud 9 also had great crowd support for this one.

Cloud 9 won the first game only to see Dawson’s win the next five in a row, prompting shots all around for the team. This cup was originally set up for high-rated female shooters and didn’t fit the profile of the female shooters these days. So we dropped the point max to accommodate the true ratings of the women today.

This match was great! Neither team lost focus on the goal at hand. The 901 games did play a part. At one point, Dawson’s was down by 289 points, but they kept fighting to eventually come back and win the game.

It took Dawson’s all of 31 games to pull off the win and move the Women’s Cup over to Tacoma. Great shooting by both teams!

After the match, Scott told the new holders that the format of The Women’s Cup was going to be re-evaluated and that the 901 team games would be changed to 701 and the doubles 701 games would be changed to 501 games.

Stay tuned for the follow up story on this cup. If you have an all-female team and would like to challenge the Women’s Cup, please call Karen at (425) 770-2444 and get on the list.

Dawson’s is a strong team – it will take a heck of a team to wrangle this cup from Kelly, Brigette, Stacy and Pat.

From Cloud 9 in Kent, I’m Scott Kringle – and that’s the way the darts flew.
