Women’s Cup is darts at it’s best
By Ed Winkle
Defending the Women’s Cup for the Inn Sports Bar in December was Sandi, Jill, Ann, and Regina. They had set a goal of defending their championship for one last time together.
However the highly charged team from Dawson’s Bar and Grill; Kelly, Stacy, Tag, and Jen, had high hopes and expectations of defeating the Women’s Cup Champions on their home turf.
Right from the start, the Dawson’s ladies showed their dominance in 701, it was obviously their game that day. The entire match started off with Hat Tricks, Low Tons, White Horses, Six Counts and Seven Counts. The girls finally settled down into their ratings and played some smart darts. This surely was a tremendous matchup between seasoned opponents.
From the beginning, Sandi, from the Inn, and Kelly, from Dawson’s, showed why they were in the power positions for their respective teams. Their battle for dominance lasted all day long.
After a sour first-game loss, the Inn Sports Bar rattled off an unanswered series of wins to establish a 7-1 lead. Kelly, Stacy, Tag, and Jen drew on their strengths as a team, sending a message to Dawson’s that they’ll have to bring it if they want to challenge them in their house.
And challenged they were. After a bleak showing, Dawson’s continued to struggle, falling well short at the halfway point; 12-7.
Dawson’s, realizing they were on the brink of losing, reached down deep, went out there and deftly brought the match back to 13-12. Amazing rally!
It is spectacular to watch as dartplayers dig out the best of themselves at crunchtime, and prove they have what it takes to compete and be winners.
Meanwhile, seemingly undaunted by the resilience of this fantastic Dawson’s team, Jill showed us why she is number two on this Inn team. Hammering through her Cricket game, driving the nails of defeat into the Dawson’s team coffin. The final game of Cricket that day brought the Inn to a victorious 17-13 finale.
The day ended as it started, with two teams willing to put all they had on the line, and leaving it all out there.
Dawson’s left in defeat, as the Inn Sports Bar celebrated their second successful defense of the prized Women’s Cup.
There was much respect and no shame on either side that day, for the battle was a beautiful example of competitive dart throwing among friends.
