Players Cup Bounces
Ringer’s Pub at Flight’s Pub
By Scott Kringle
On Saturday, September 24, Flights Pub put up the 44 point Players Cup to be challenged.
Ringer’s Pub, Mountlake Terrace, took the bait. Todd Jordan, Mike Williams, Brian Smith, and Brett Brophy made the drive to Flights to play a familiar group including Dave Bresee, Jeff Springer Jr, Dan Osborne, and Bill Livingston.
Flights had the Novice Cup being played at one end of the room that afternoon, while the Players Cup was about to kick off four or five boards down. Flights had it all going on; Husky Football on the TVs and a riveting Texas Hold ‘Em tournament underway too! The place was packed – it was game on!
Ringers pulled out to a quick three-game lead, but Flights reeled it back in to trail by one game. The match went back and forth, with neither team really taking control. Both teams had players hitting their Hat Tricks, High Tons, and Low Tons, etc. Something you’d expect from players of this caliber. At one point, there was back-to-back-to-back-to-back Hat Tricks. Great players have great matches. This was one of those that showcased great skill.
After three and a half hours, Ringer’s finally took the match, the cash, and more importantly, the trophy, beating Flight’s 17-14.
The Players Cup moves on over to Ringer’s Pub and Flights will be looking forward to another challenge in the near future. Nice job by both teams.
