Home Plate defends Players Cup
Saturday, April 19, Home Plate Tavern’s team of Willy Walker, Jim Tederman, Darrell Titus, and Frank Linksey met up with the team of Del Kahuli, Kurtis Beach, Pat Farrell, and Buddy Marshall from across town representing Dawson’s.
These players are all very familiar with each other and were anxious to stoke this Tacoma rivalry.
Game one started off fast with Willy and Jim opening with back-to-back Hat Tricks, only to be matched the next time through the order by Del and Kurtis. Game one came down to the out, and Buddy started off the day right by drilling a 134!
Del kicked off game two by nailing 3-In-The-Black in another close game that came down to the out. This time, it was the fourth player, Frank, for Home Plate, who hit a 138 to tie things at one game apiece.
Darrell and Jim each hit White Horses on the way to helping Home Plate build a seemingly comfortable 10-4 lead.
But, as it goes, Dawson’s would not lay down quietly. They ran off four in a row to get it to 10-8, and eventually tied it up at 13.
Frank hit a Low Ton to leave Jim with a 151, which he drilled to put Home Plate back up 14-13.
Darrell won his Cricket Singles in a hard-fought match against Pat in game 29 to put Home Plate just one win away heading into the last four team games. Home Plate took away all of the suspense by winning the first team game with a T20 out and hold onto the Players Cup for another tough challenge, 17-13 Home Plate. Way to go boys!
