Novice Cup beatdown
Scorecard Bar & Grill at Flight’s Pub
By Scott Kringle
Saturday, September 24 was a busy day Flights Pub in Everett when they hosted not just the Novice Cup, but also the Players Cup, a Texas Hold ‘Em tourney, plus the Huskies were sticking it to their opponents.
Challenging Flights today for their coveted 10-point Novice Cup was a group of first-time cup players representing the Scorecard Bar and Grill out of Seattle’s Northgate area, including Kristina Vonhaartman, Jessica Hester, Sarah Pickett, and Judy Hester. Every one of them were rated a Medalist 2. They would have their hands full today, because Flights team has been there, and done that. Mary Cowles, Sarah Moms, Suzanne Manville, and Holly Weaver came in as a 10-point team, and they had no intention of giving up their beloved Novice Cup.
It’s awfully tough to walk in and play for one of these sanctioned cups as an underrated team, and Flights was dead set on showing the girls from Scorecard exactly why.
Flights won four games in a row to start the match. Trailing by over two hundred points in game five, they never gave up and came back to beat Scorecard again. They went on to win seven games in a row before giving up their first game to Scorecard.
With a 7-1 lead, Flights was firmly in the Driver’s Seat and Scorecard knew it. Scorecard won a second game, but Flights proved why they are the Novice Cup Champions by pulling away to keep their cup. With a very convincing win of 11-2, Flights sent Scorecard home empty-handed. But Judy and her girls enjoyed the competition and learned a valuable lesson that day. Next time they will come better prepared with a bit of experience under their belts.
Flights is the team to beat if you want to bring the Novice Cup back to your house. Nice job by both teams!
Signing off from Flights Pub in Everett, this is Scott Kringle, “And that’s the way the darts flew”.
