Mixed Memorial Cup

MixedMemCup

By Scott Kringle

Sun-drenched after a beautiful ride on the motorcycles through Green Valley, we spilled out into the traffic on Auburn Way headed straight for the Cloud 9. Even though the blazing sun had the temperatures into the high 70′s, the Monte Carlo’s Mixed Memorial Cup team was inside and ready to compete against Cloud 9′s current cup holders.

Having just taken ownership of the Mixed Memorial one month earlier, this was Tia, Brad, Amy and Larry’s first defense of their newly acquired cup. Shooting for the Monte Carlo was Mike, Jodi, Richard and Brenda.

The players assembled, adjusted, and, under the direction of Cup Director, Scott Kringle, the darts soon began to fly.

Right out of the gates, Cloud 9 ran off with five wins behind Tia’s amazing contributions at the board, leaving Monte Carlo with just one win to their five. She would nail an 8-count and casually slide back to her table, expressionless. Meanwhile, her team was bursting at the seams with enthusiasm.

Thanks to Richard Baker’s back to back to back Hat Tricks, the Monte Carlo worked their way back into the match early to bring the score to 6-4.

Doug was in the house to support Brenda and her team. Dressed in full basketball regalia, he was not hard to miss. In fact, both teams had their backers on hand.

And the games poured on into the afternoon. By game thirteen, Cloud 9 was holding onto a slim 7-6 lead. Each player knew that if they missed the out, they would most likely pay the price.

The place was rockin’ with Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”, in honor of his recent passing. Monte Carlo’s fans were by far the loudest, both in their singing and cheering on their team. Even Jeff, Monte Carlo’s owner came out to support his team.

When Cloud 9′s Larry and Amy went up against Mike and Brenda, it took 18 rounds and over 600 points for Monte Carlo to win the Cricket game, though Cloud 9 was still holding onto the slightest of leads, 12-11.

This match was a dogfight right to the very end. At the finish of game 29, Cloud 9 was still clutching onto their one-game lead, before Monte Carlo tied it up, 15-15 in the very next game to keep things interesting. It would become a race to only two games now.

Monte Carlo took their first lead of the day, 16-15, winning their third straight game against the defending Cloud 9 team. They followed that up by winning the 32nd game and taking the Mixed Memorial Cup away from the Cloud 9.

Way to go Monte Carlo!
