Mixed Memorial Cup
By Joseph Mathias
On Saturday, February 21, the 13th Ave Pub, in their 2nd defense of the Mixed Memorial Cup returned with Tony Ashworth, Larry Mead, Kim Weaver and Jackie Williams to defend their cup against Jimmy Jack’s best in Todd Jordan, Dave Foster, Danielle Potts and Joanna Ortmann.
The weather was murky outside, which set up a perfect indoor afternoon of music, sports on the TV monitors and a great battle on the dart boards. The match got underway with Jimmy Jacks jumping out to a commanding 6-1 lead following outstanding darts from the girls of the visiting team, proving they came to play. But 13th Ave. wouldn’t give in, battling back with Tony and Larry flexing their muscles to bring it to 6-5 after 11 games.
Then, after Todd and Dave made their big shots count, Jimmy Jack’s team continued to lead 11-9 with 20 games in the books. 13th Ave. would have none of that with Kim and Jackie taking turns strutting their stuff, making the match close again at 14-12.
With three games to go, Jimmy Jack’s team of Todd, Dave, Dani and Joanna would prove to be too much as they won the next three and marched the trophy and the money right over to it’s new home. They racked up a 17-12 win over the 13th Ave. Pub.
Congratulations to Jimmy Jacks on their victory and new ownership of the Mixed Memorial Cup.
