Toe-to-toe for the Hot Shot Cup

By Karen Kringle

The Hot Shot Cup saw some action on Saturday, March 19 when Cloud 9 invited their next “victim” to come on in and give it their best shot.

Ironically, that team was from Home Plate Tacoma, just as their Players Cup counterparts were attempting to steal a match across the bar.

Mark Grisham, Carmen Sweatman, Rene Stade, and Louise Jones represented Home Plate. They walked into the challenge match ready to go. No warm-ups necessary, let’s do this!

Mary Todd, Ken Brainerd, Terry Hubs, and Krystina Grachek were defending their Hot Shot Cup. They are a well-built team, it would take some seriously great shooting to wrangle the cup from these guys.

It was game on! The match got started in a flurry of Cloud 9 wins. It took Carmen’s D11 to break up Cloud 9’s 7-game win streak right out of the gates, 7-1  after eight.

Seems like most of these matches are back and forth for the most part, but every now and then you get a lopsided match. Today’s Hot Shot Cup was going to be one of these.

Cloud 9 pulled out to an 11-1 lead after twelve games.

Heading into the team games, Home Plate said they were about to start their big comeback rally by winning game 13. Surely this would bring the team back to life. But, Cloud 9 just walked right through them, taking the match, 17-2. They will hold onto the Hot Shot Cup for another month. Way to go guys!
