4×7 Cup plays

By Tamra Easley
Saturday, November 14th was a busy time around Dawson’s. Not only was the Women’s Cup being played, but the 4×7 kicked off at a little after 2pm as well just one board over.
Representing Dawson’s was Pat Farrell, Ron Clement, Mikki Branstetter and ADot. Representing Cloud 9 was Josh Carleton, Lexie Bush, Terry Hales and Snoop Spivey. Terry would be playing in his first cup, though he handled it like a pro.
The teams were ready for each other for sure, Dawson’s threw the gauntlet down in game 1 putting on a masterful display of ’01 skill, Cloud kicked that glove aside tossing one of their own in game 2.
The game exchange continued over the next two before Dawson’s put together two wins in a row for a smidgen of breathing room. But Cloud broke this run in the very next game.
Dawson’s rolled off two more before Cloud put together their first multi-game run by taking two in a row of their own for a one-game deficit, 6-5.
Dawson’s maintained their lead until game 18, where Cloud topped off another two in a row for a tie score 9-9.
Dawson’s swung the following two games for another deuce lead, 11-9. Cloud 9, not to be outdone, trumped this with a three-bagger to take the lead for the first time in the match 12-11.
Continuing the trend, Dawson’s took the next couple of games to regain the lead. Cloud had still another trio of wins left up their sleeve punctuated by Josh ending game 28 with a hat trick for a 15-13 lead.
Dawson’s, ever the fighters, tied the match by winning three of the next four games. The outcome came down to the wire, Dawson’s had a 71 to Cloud’s 64. Dawson’s hit the out first to top off three in a row and successfully defend their title.
Congrats to both teams!
