NORTHWEST POKER PLAY: 13th Ave Pub dives in with Jokers WildBy Randy GarlingtonJoker's Wild Forty poker players gathered Saturday, February 17, for the inaugural 13th Avenue Pub's Texas Hold 'Em Poker Challenge. The $25 buy-in created a prize pool of $1,000, all of which was paid out to the top ten finishers, with first place taking down a cool $500 cash! Wayne Larson, owner of 13th Ave Pub, also participated in the event and even spiced up the prize pool by putting a $25 bounty on himself. The play was fast and furious as one by one the players were eliminated. One of the more fun aspects of the event was how Wayne, the owner, fought of numerous challengers and held on to his bounty not only to the final table but was one of the final two players. After a serious duel, Wayne finally surrendered his bounty and the first place prize to Joseph Murphies. Joe was delighted with the win and even more delighted to pocket the now $525. Rounding out the top five was 3rd place; Steve Bryan, 4th place; Dan Knechtel and 5th place; Micah Childers. It was exciting and a lot of fun, said Wayne . We will definitely do this again. In fact, 13th Ave Pub is planning their next Poker Challenge for April 7, so mark it on your calendar. Actually, mark every first Saturday down, as Wayne 's making it a monthly event beginning in April! If you can't wait until April, then stop in the Pub on any Tuesday evening, they run a $10 buy-in tournament every week. The tournament begins at 6:30 but it's best to get there around 6:00 to be sure to get a seat. As always, all of the buy-in money is paid out to the players, there is no additional entry fee to participate.
