Pickled Onion; Renton , WA Taking care of their ownBy Ty Hughes I'm a lways impressed by the benevolence of humanity. Just when you think the world is going to hell after watching the news, a story like this comes across your desk, restoring every bit of your confidence in our species. Last month's Medallion featured a story on one of our own in need. Karren Lindsay, a cancer patient who shoots and plays out of the Pickled Onion in Renton had her insurance company decline any further coverage for the year. She requires regular blood transfusions and has no way of covering the cost until her insurance kicked in for another year. Enter the ultra-fine folks at the Pickled Onion. On Saturday, October 21, Sean and his faithful constituents provided a $750 Gtd. Added Benefit Shoot for Karren with outstanding and heart-warming results. Over 32 teams and their friends came out in support of one of their own. The bar was absolutely stuffed with bodies and Karren was deeply touched by the show of support. All the tournament players fortunate enough to win money, turned around and immediately handed back their winnings to assist Karren in her health care costs. Sean Erskine, Pickled Onion's owner, offered to match every dollar raised and that he did! They raised a total of $3,656 for Karren's benefit – an incredible display of human kindness. ($1,403 in donations, $850 from raffled items and matched dollars.) A huge thanks to everyone who showed up in support of Karren, and especially to those who gave from their hearts to help one of our own in need.
