In Memoriam: Rachael M. Hurt
Death is hardest on the living.
On the 19th of October, in the early morning hours, we lost a very dear friend in an auto accident.
Rachael M. Hurt, a very prominent Cloud 9 dart player, left behind her eight year old daughter, Keara Ward, her mother Katie Burns, sister Melissa Trawick and two brothers David and Shawn.
Her friends, staff and coordinators of Cloud 9 held a dart tournament to honor her memory on Saturday, October the 20th. The response was overwhelming with well over a hundred dart players showing up to pay their respects. Forty two teams entered the tournament, each paying an additional $5 donation which was matched by Ike. Everyone present that night opened their hearts and their wallets. All of the tournament winners that night donated their winnings.
"It was a very emotional night", said Ike, "I have never seen such unity, love, feelings, respect and generosity all poured out in one evening like that.
Stars Bar & Grill sent in a collection and Wah Long had a tournament the next day in Rachael’s memory. If only there was a better way of expressing our gratitude to all who showed up and brought Rachael’s collection fund to over $3000 than a great big THANK YOU! They say actions speak louder than words.
The money was handed over to Rachael's mother the next day.
Cloud 9 will be having a tournament every Saturday night until the end of November in her memory and will continue taking donations for her family.
On Saturday, December 1st, a brand new Genesis dart board, donated by Medalist and valued at $1500 will be raffled off at Cloud 9. We will start selling the raffle tickets at the bar on the 27th of October during the dart tournament and will continue until December 1st. Tickets will be for $5 per ticket and 100% of the proceeds will go to Rachael's family. Please continue your support and buy as many raffle tickets
that you can and let us all pray for her soul to rest in peace.
Racheal M. Hurt, born 8/17/76, a friend, a shoulder, an ever-smiling face, always ready to help others... you will be missed!
And one more time, Ike, Debbie, Amit, Sumit, and the entire staff at Cloud 9 thank everyone who helped to make the financial burden a bit lighter on Rachael's family.
Thank you to the Coordinators who devoted their time and money and all you friends, thank you.
~ Ike
From Tia and Sheree –
We have lost our 3rd Musketeer, our roommate for State and Worlds, but mostly a great friend. Rachael was the kind of person that when you meet her, you automatically feel like her friend. She always told us she loved us when we said goodbye.
She loved playing darts and believed in girl-power, she was always trying so hard to be better. The last time all three of us threw darts together was recently at a Trios shoot. We didn’t win, but we had a great time being together doing what Rachael loved most. I could fill this page with stories of what a kind and loving person she was, but if you knew her, you already know that. She was the girl with the biggest heart and will be missed and loved by us forever.
We love you Rach!
