Flights Grand Opening big hit By Ty Hughes July 2nd couldn't have gone any better according to Ty Franzer, new owner of Flights Pub in Everett . The evening was billed as Flights' first Grand Opening dart party since Ty took over as the new owner of a storied Kodiak Ron's. Ty quickly made inroads with the players and personalities surrounding the dart world – the powers that be! Soon, everyone was raving about this guy and how wonderful a person he is. Everybody wants to work for him and play darts for him. Maybe he oughta run for Mayor or something! The night was a colossal success in every way. The bar was jam-packed with happy party people, all bouncing around, getting into the mood and setting the precedence for the rest of the night. Flights was giving away a massive flat-screen TV by way of a raffle drawing. At first, the interest seemed minimal, so I figured maybe I had a good shot at it. It was a super nice TV! I bought like ten tickets quietly. Come 10pm and the deadline to buy your raffle tickets, the word was out and the tickets were flying out of the bar. Michelle McGee won the damn thing! Jeez, like she even needs it! I wanted that thing! Okay… congratulations, Michelle. Sean was on the mic announcing the tournament and thanking new owner, Ty Franzer. Tom Williams and his lovely wife wo-manned the coordinator's table. Tom managed the charts that night and, boy, did he have a job in front of him. Even upon my early arrival, I could feel the energy in the place. I knew it was going to be a big event! Tom signed up 47 teams and had to run two 32 team charts side by side. We couldn't think of anyone else capable of doing this by hand. Way to go, Tommy! And he even wrapped up the tournament by 2:30am – even more impressive. I happen to know this, ‘cause it was Floyd and I who were in the finals! We ended up splitting with Peter and Dan to wrap things up. I wasn't even going to shoot and we never lost a match – unbelievable! The tournament was a blast and the total payout was over $1,200. Everybody snuggled in close to get it done. The fully-fenced patio was open for some fresh air. It was a warm Spring night. The bartenders were amazing! All night long, they were completely buried behind the bar. There was always a line to the bar. Ty ran around, being himself. Jackie was all smiles, believe it or not. I saw players from every neighborhood around the Puget Sound here to play. Christina and Jeremiah were celebrating their one year anniversary (June 6). And, of course, the other Jeremiah was busy on the barbecue all day, cooking huge, meaty ribs that became quite the popular menu item all night long. Flight's Grand Opening event was spectacular for all involved. I'm pretty sure Ty was very happy with the way everything played out. Certainly, he thanks everyone for their support and hopes to see you on a Flights team real soon. This is a dart house, you guys. Always has been, always will be. Swing by and check out the all-new Flights Pub, located at 7601 Evergreen Way , Everett (425) 347-6659. Say hello to Ty and the gang, they'll do ya right!
