Poised for a comebackBy Kelly Gries The 13th Ave Pub's first dart tournament in quite a while was a great success! Even though it was the Saturday before Christmas and the power was still out in many areas, 14 teams braved the traffic for Kelly's Comeback Tournament! It was a fun crowd with a generous spirit! Almost everyone brought food and many brought toys to raise funds for Hopelink. Most dart players are often generous, but this crowd showed just a little bit extra. Keep in mind this was a free entry with five cans of food or a toy. Some players brought more than five cans of food and still paid five dollars to play! The tournament ran smoothly, even after starting late due to traffic on 164th. Bad boy Brian and the lovely Denise, took first place, beating out Shon and Ann, who started in the loser's bracket and came all the way back. Max and Steve took third and Steve and Juan took fourth. Kellie and Willy took fifth, but because of the way the sheet was set up, there is a tie for fifth. We gave both teams the option of either taking $5 or playing one game of Cricket for the whopping $10 payout! Being the competitors that they are, as well as making this a triple elimination (kinda), they played. Kellie and Willy beat Brian and Tami in a heated game and graciously donated their $10 to Hopelink! The service at the tournament was great! Kelle, the bartender, and Jen, the server, were very busy and running hard. Spike came in and helped for a while on his day off, and the kitchen was great, of course. I think I ran a pretty good tournament and everyone seemed to have a real good time. Our next big tournament will be in February, so watch for our ad and come join in the fun! |
