Ladies Draft season a nail-biter to the end

By Kelly Wise

The Ladies Draft League just wrapped up its second season, and the race for first place and MVP kept everyone guessing until the very end.

Although the season started off a little rocky, the ladies in Phoenix stepped up to make sure the league was still fun and competitive. In the end, the Ox Rick’s Chicks came out on top with a 13-2 win over CB Bite Me in the final week to win first. Not only did they take first, but Wendi Stone also won the Top Gun award, beating out Denise Davis, based on power rankings, by a fraction of a point. Marie Franqui was also well-deserved of the MVP award, as her team played well together despite some issues in the latter part of the season. Great job ladies!

1st Place: OX RICK’S CHICKS;
Wendi Stone, Misty Wyna, Brandy Stone and Temi Menke

2nd Place: CB BITE ME;
Carol Bretz, Amanda Stein, Lisa Milburn and Angela Perez

3rd Place: STN NO DRAMA;
Sabrina Mokuahi, Kelli Wise, Kim Thomas and Laura Sowers

4th Place: STN DRAMA DIARIES;
Denise Davis, Val Oney, Danea Follett and Cindy Buettner

As the ladies continue to work towards the ultimate goal of making this league a Master’s league, there will be some changes for the upcoming season. The league will switch to 3-person teams, playing 16 games. In addition, based on the feedback, they will reduce the number of locations to make it a little more convenient.

The next season starts on June 13. So mark your calendars for the Draft Party/Tournament at Sixshooters on June 6 at 7:30. If you cannot make it or want to make sure you are on the list for next season, please contact Denise, 602.790.6877; or Alvanita at 602.741.1246.
