Goodbye To A Friend
by Mike Bates

Chuck Timmerman passed away on Saturday, March 19th. He became ill towards the end of last year and things rapidly got worse. Our prayers go out to Chuck's family.

For many of you who didn't know Chuck, he was an excellent dart thrower from the past. He was once referred to as the Eastside's John Gray. You all know what that means.

Back when Tee Kee Tee Darts ruled the Valley, they had East and Westside leagues. The end-of-the-season banquets were held together and nearly every High Flyer award went to Chuck.

I was lucky enough to play with Chuck, Don Henson and Dan Wilson for two years at the NDA World Championships. Back then, level I was the highest division and we finished second both years. Chuck was one of the most confident players I ever met.

I talked with Chuck a couple of days before he passed away. Knowing he was battling for his life, I said, "Are you hanging in there?"

His response was, " I can still get out of this bed and kick your ass on the dart board."

That was Chuck. Never at a loss for words; I just wish he would have been around more and stuck with darts.
