UNCLE CHARLIE’S; GLENDALE, AZ
Uncle Charlie’s doin’ it and doin’ it well
From Mike Scarborough
I was talking to Mark Lance about an old bar called Splash on Saturday and he said, “Mike, do you know why Splash had such a great tournament? It was fun to play, Stan ran it every week no matter how many players showed up, and whoever got Marty was taking first.” When Kenny first asked me to run the tournament at Uncle Charlie’s, his only request was that I show up every week, no matter what else may be going on.
Well, when I walked into the bar last Saturday I did not expect to see anyone there but Kenny. There was a $400 Added event going on at Stinger’s, and yet, there they were. 16 players showed up for the first tournament, which officially made for a 250% payback.
The first thing Kenny said to me is, “Hey, these people came out and supported this tournament, so I am going to make it 300%. Just let me know how much I am adding and I’ll go to the ATM.”
Two players that I have never seen before ended up taking first place. Then a few players asked about running a second tournament. Kenny looked at them and said, “I will make it a 200% payback, just let me go get more money.” He said that we would run it even if we have to do a singles handicapped tournament, but we had six teams.
I don’t go play darts to have fun very often - you know who my dad is - but that’s all it was. I have never enjoyed the game as much as I did running those two tournaments.
The bottom line is that this guy is serious when he says, “We’ll be here every week. It doesn’t matter if we have four players or 54 players.”
So come out to Uncle Charlie’s at 53rd Ave. and Bell on Saturday and play in this 250% tournament. They’ve got good service, awesome food, and an even better dart tournament. We start at 8:30 sharp.
