| RIVIERA HOTEL & CASINO; LAS VEGAS, NV Medalist World Championships RIVIERA HOTEL & CASINO; LAS VEGAS, NV – Medalist supporters and soft tip dart enthusiasts from many continents and countries made the trek to Las Vegas for the Medalist World Championships held at the Riviera Hotel & Casino September 11-15, 2007. Temperatures in the desert were slightly more bearable than in previous years when the event was held in mid-summer. Medalist promised a $515,000 payout for the week, based on player participation, making an exciting week of intense competition. By early Wednesday morning, Medalist had presented their snappy opening ceremonies and players got a glimpse of the tournament floor for the first time. There were many changes to the format this year including a $199 entry fee per player that allowed everyone to play every tournament, every day freely. There were also no quarters necessary – all the boards were set to free play all week long. As for the schedule of play; four flights daily included C, B, A, AA flights each with their own Pit Match to conclude a great day of darts at a reasonable hour. Additional events were scattered throughout the week. There was a Super Count Up Singles tournament on Wednesday evening in two brackets that drew a full field of players. The Grand Master’s Singles and Doubles events on Friday is always a popular event for audience and players alike and offered a combined payout of $30,000 in cash! Also on Friday was an Air Attack Doubles tournament in two brackets that proved to be very fun and popular with the players as well. After a second full day of play, the players felt settled in to the Las Vegas lifestyle and were presented with Medalist’s Player Appreciation Party. Always a wild and crazy time, everyone put on their dancing shoes and shook their behinds to an amazing live band right on the tournament floor. On Saturday, amidst all the final day excitement, Medalist rolled out probably the most anticipated event of the week; the much talked about Super Count Up Singles Challenge. Months of preparation and play led up to this event, bringing 21 qualifiers to the stage with but one goal: take first, take $50,000 in cash! These 21 qualifiers represented different cultures from around the world. As play began and the onlooking crowd cheered for their hometown hero, the field was diminished. Each of the 21 were guaranteed $1000 cash in getting to this point in the competition. By late Saturday (early Sunday), a whopping $107.000 had been given away to these 21 players, including a $50,000 check to one very lucky guy, Lawrence Lee, of Singapore! Joe Bolanos, El Monte, CA, pocketed $20,000 for his 2nd place finish. Bernard Tong and Robert Hubbard finished in 3rd, taking home a $10,000 check of their own.
